Hello! I was wondering about recruitment; do I need to RSVP, and if yes then how? Also do I need to bring anything?

Excellent questions, Brittany! If you are on Facebook, you can RSVP on one of the two event pages. That way, you’ll also get updates and tips and tricks prior to the event. Our informational nights are August 10th at 4:30pm – https://www.facebook.com/events/816073248411684/ and August 18th at 8pm – https://www.facebook.com/events/744132485637677/.

Nothing is required for purchase prior to the recruitment nights. Eventually, you will want to get your own skates and safety equipment. There will be more posted about those on this blog soon as well as options on where to get them. We’ll also discuss this at the informational meeting. Training begins on September 2nd. There will be skates and a limited quantity of safety gear available to borrow at practices for those that do not have their own yet at that time.

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Thank you! And lastly, what is the required attire? If there is any.

        Another great question!

For the recruitment nights, just dress casually. There will be an open skate but no training or tryout on those nights, so wear something comfortable if you would like to skate.

For training days, be sure to wear something comfortable that you might work out in. A lot of people prefer tank tops to stay cooler. You’ll also want to cover your legs in some manner (capri stretch pants or shorts over tights, for example) for practice in falling properly without making direct skin contact on the floor. We have a blog post in the works with some examples of what people wear!

    Thank you so much!

Wherever your practices located? I just moved to knob noster and have been playing roller derby for two years. I don’t want to stop playing and am looking for practice locations that are less than an hour and a half away….
